For physiotherapists · BPT · legal route

This is what your BPT pays *abroad*.

A physiotherapist works on a patient's knee on a treatment table in a clinic

Employer-sponsored in two directions: Germany's clinics and the UK's NHS. Your family on the file, and in the UK no health surcharge for any of you.

Who can apply

This page is for BPT holders.

Abroad, the requirement is recognition, and clearing it is most of what we do with you. One quiet advantage you carry: the Indian BPT runs four to four and a half years, which reads as an Honours-equivalent degree in UK comparability.

Route 1 · Germany

Physiotherapeut

₹43–46 Lon recognition

€3,295 to 3,538 a month on the public tariff (TVöD E7), at ₹109 to the euro.

The recognition truth, up front: physiotherapy is a regulated profession in Germany. The Land authority assesses your BPT. Where gaps are found you choose a knowledge exam or an adaptation course, and recognition asks for B2 German. Until recognition completes you work at assistant-tier pay, set by your employer and Land. We read that contract with you before you sign. Fees and timelines vary by Land, and we tell you yours, dated, on the call.

The visa
The recognition permit (§16d). Once a German employer confirms you, A2 German is enough to fly, and you finish your recognition in Germany while you work and earn. Your BPT is long enough to meet the training length the law asks for. [V] Recognition permit · §16d AufenthG
The staying
Settlement typically follows 3 years on the skilled-worker permit, plus B1 German. The 21-month figure sometimes quoted applies only to Blue Card holders. We say so plainly. [V] Settlement permit · §18c AufenthG
The family
Once you hold the skilled-worker permit, your spouse joins with no German test and can work immediately. During the recognition phase the rules are tighter; we map your family's dates honestly before you fly. [V] Family reunification · §30 AufenthG
The language
A2 starts the route, B2 completes recognition, B1 is what settlement needs. Kaushal Bhasha teaches it from your mother tongue, alongside the clinical prep.
The demand
Close to 12,000 unfilled physiotherapy posts in 2024, more than any other German healthcare profession, with vacancies taking over 300 days to fill. [V] Skilled-labour gap analysis · IW via IFK

NHS Band 5 physiotherapist

₹41–50 Lyear one, gross

NHS Band 5 runs £32,073 to £39,043, at ₹127 to the pound. London posts add a weighting on top.

The register, up front: the UK requirement is HCPC registration. It is cleared from India in most cases: the application is online, and the competence discussion usually runs on a video call, though the regulator keeps the right to ask for it in person. Since November 2025 your standards mapping must be right the first time, with no second chance to patch gaps later. That mapping is precisely the paperwork we build with you.

The visa
The Health and Care Worker visa: a low fee (£324 up to three years) and no NHS health surcharge for you or your family. [V] Health and Care Worker visa · GOV.UK
The family
Partner and children come as dependants, also surcharge-exempt. Physiotherapists are not under the UK's care-worker family restrictions. [V] Health and Care Worker visa · GOV.UK
The staying
A path to residency exists. The UK is rewriting its settlement rules in 2026, so we quote no number until the law does. Your advisor tells you the state of it, dated, on your call.
The English
The regulator's bar: IELTS Academic 7.0 overall (no element below 6.5) or the OET equivalent. [V] International applications · HCPC
The degree
Your four to four-and-a-half-year BPT compares to a UK Honours degree under the 2025 comparability framework; what decides the file is the standards mapping, prepared case by case. [V] Indian degree comparability · UK ENIC · Sep 2025
The demand
The NHS's own workforce plan calls for 71,000 to 76,000 more allied health professionals by 2036. [V] NHS workforce analysis · Health Foundation

The questions that matter.

Can I clear the UK register from India?+

In most cases, yes: the application is online, and the competence discussion usually runs on a video call. Honestly, the regulator keeps an in-person option, and since November 2025 your standards mapping must be right the first time. That is the work we do together.

How much German do I need?+

A2 starts the route once an employer is confirmed, B2 completes recognition, and B1 is what settlement needs. Taught from your mother tongue, alongside the clinical prep, not after it.

Does my BPT actually count abroad?+

Yes, and better than most Indian degrees. At four to four and a half years it reads as Honours-equivalent in the UK's comparability framework, and it clears the training-length bar Germany's law sets for the recognition route.

Can my family come?+

UK: partner and children come as dependants, with no health surcharge for any of you. Germany: once you hold the skilled-worker permit, your spouse joins without a German test and can work. During recognition the rules are tighter, and we map the dates honestly.

What does it cost?+

The fee depends on the route, and you hear it itemised, line by line, on the call and then in writing. 30% of it falls due only after you have both the job and the visa.
